AUSTRALIAN HOMES INSTALLED 276,011 BATTERIES IN SIX MONTHS.

Australian households installed 276,011 home batteries between January and June 2026, a 52% increase from the previous six months. They also added 180,878 rooftop solar systems totaling a record 1,894 megawatts.

WHAT HAPPENED

Clean Energy Council data reported by RenewEconomy show 180,878 rooftop solar systems installed in the first half of 2026, up 35% from the previous half-year. Their combined capacity reached 1,894 megawatts, up 41%.

The same period brought 276,011 household battery installations, 52% more than the previous six months. Roughly one in 2.5 Australian homes now has rooftop solar, and about one in seven has a battery. Incentives and power prices helped drive adoption; these are deployment counts, not a claim that every household sees the same bill savings.

WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP

The household energy transition is becoming ordinary hardware. Panels gather power, batteries move it into the evening, and hundreds of thousands of families are turning their roofs and garages into a distributed piece of the grid.
