TAIWAN REACHED A 92.7% HEPATITIS C TREATMENT RATE.

Taiwan’s hepatitis C program reports screening more than 7.86 million people, diagnosing 92.4% of identified infections and treating 92.7%. Treatment coverage in key high-risk groups reached 95%.

WHAT HAPPENED

Taiwan expanded public drug coverage in 2017 and removed disease-severity restrictions in 2019, turning curative antiviral therapy into a population-scale program. By 2026, more than 7.86 million people had been screened. Reported diagnosis and treatment rates reached 92.4% and 92.7%, while treatment among key high-risk groups reached 95%.

Health authorities also report declines in liver-cancer incidence and mortality. The figures are substantial progress indicators, but they do not mean transmission has ended; continued screening and follow-up remain necessary.

WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP

Hepatitis C is curable, but only if people are found and treatment is reachable. Taiwan’s program converted that simple truth into public infrastructure: screen widely, remove rationing rules and keep closing the gap between diagnosis and cure.
