Two new sea spider species, the first described in the Salish Sea in almost a century, were identified by UBC researchers.
WHAT HAPPENED
Between September 2023 and August 2024, lead author Cormac Toler-Scott and colleagues dove to around 18 metres at sites including Quadra Island, Vancouver, Bamfield and Victoria, then used microscopy and genetics to describe seven coastal species, two of them new.
WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP
