NEARLY 12,000 CALIFORNIANS USED A NEW EV REBATE IN TEN WEEKS.

California's MyFirstEV rebate helped 11,938 residents buy an electric vehicle in about ten weeks, according to the state's October 16 update.

WHAT HAPPENED

The program takes $3,500 off eligible new zero-emission vehicles or $1,750 off eligible used ones for Californians buying their first ZEV. Automakers apply the instant rebate at participating dealerships. Roughly $70 million had been redeemed, leaving about $200 million available.

WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP

Up-front cost is where many climate programs lose people. This one removes friction at the exact moment of purchase—and the early redemption count shows people are using it, even as the wider market remains uneven.
