$23 MILLION WILL ADD 77 SUPPORTIVE HOMES FOR VETERANS AND FAMILIES.

More than $23 million in public financing will more than double the capacity of a permanent supportive-housing community on the Perry Point VA Medical Center campus in Cecil County, Maryland.

WHAT HAPPENED

Maryland's Department of Housing and Community Development closed financing for HELP Perry Point Veterans Village Phase II. The plan adds 77 homes and pairs permanent affordable housing with nearby VA services including case management, life-skills support, mental-health care and psychotherapy. The financing combines federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit equity, HOME-ARP funds and bonds; the development is also designed to rely primarily on solar power.

WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP

Housing assistance works better when it is not separated from the care people need to stay housed. This project puts homes and services on the same campus for veterans and families facing chronic homelessness. Financing is closed, but construction and occupancy still have to follow.
