NORTH AMERICA’S LARGEST WILDLIFE CROSSING CUT ANIMAL-VEHICLE COLLISIONS 91%.
A bridge for wildlife became a safety system for everyone.

A grass-covered crossing above six lanes of I-25 is reconnecting habitat for elk, pronghorn and other wildlife. During its first 10 months, the broader system recorded a 91% reduction in wildlife-vehicle collisions along the protected corridor.
WHAT HAPPENED
Colorado completed the Greenland Wildlife Overpass in December 2025. The 200-foot-wide, 209-foot-long bridge closes a gap in an 18-mile mitigation system that also includes five underpasses and miles of eight-foot fencing. It connects roughly 39,000 acres on both sides of I-25, and cameras have recorded elk, pronghorn and smaller species using the crossings. New monitoring reported only two large-animal collisions in the first 10 months, a 91% decline from the prior pattern.
WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP
This is infrastructure that removes a conflict instead of asking drivers or animals to absorb it forever. The early result protects wildlife and people while reopening a migration route—but the 91% figure belongs to the whole bridge-underpass-fencing system, and longer-term connectivity evidence is still being studied.
