252 million hectares are now under restoration across 149 countries.
Nature restoration is scaling—and already supporting more than one million green jobs.

A new UNEP assessment finds restoration underway across 252 million hectares in 149 countries, with more than one million green jobs already linked to the work.
WHAT HAPPENED
Countries have collectively committed to restore around one billion hectares. UNEP says 252 million hectares are now reported under restoration, spanning forests, wetlands, grasslands and other ecosystems. The agency also estimates that restoration could support as many as 32 million jobs by 2030.
WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP
Restoration is no longer only a promise: it has become a broad, job-creating activity across much of the world. The gap is still large—finance must rise sharply and reported activity is not the same as ecological recovery—but the scale now in motion is meaningful.
