THE FIRST COMMERCIAL GREENFIELD ENHANCED-GEOTHERMAL PLANT IS ONLINE.
Cape Station turned underground heat and horizontal drilling into 33 megawatts of round-the-clock clean power.

Cape Station has moved enhanced geothermal from a much-discussed promise into a commercially operating power block.
WHAT HAPPENED
Fervo declared the first 33-megawatt net block of Cape Station in Beaver County, Utah, commercially operational. The project uses horizontal drilling and engineered reservoirs to access heat where conventional geothermal resources are unavailable. It is delivering firm, 24/7 carbon-free electricity under contract.
WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP
Wind and solar do their best work with complementary clean power that can run at any hour. A first commercial greenfield enhanced-geothermal plant is a meaningful proof point for that missing piece—even as cost, water use, induced seismicity and scale still deserve scrutiny.
