FIFTEEN FROGS THE SIZE OF A PENCIL TIP JUST MADE HISTORY.
The first Afia Birago's puddle frogs ever born under human care are now hopping at London Zoo.

London Zoo has bred 15 Afia Birago's puddle froglets, the first of their species born under human care anywhere. The five-millimetre arrivals are a small but concrete step toward an insurance population for a frog known from only two perennial pools in Ghana's Atewa Hills.
WHAT HAPPENED
After 20 adult frogs arrived from Ghana in 2025, ZSL amphibian keepers developed the husbandry conditions that produced 15 healthy froglets. The species is critically endangered and its remaining wild habitat faces mining pressure. London Zoo says the breeding knowledge will be transferred to a planned amphibian conservation facility in Kumasi, Ghana.
WHY THIS IS HOPESLOP
This is hope at the correct scale: not a victory lap over extinction, but a working method that can travel back to the species' home country. Fifteen tiny animals now carry a reproducible conservation playbook.
